Dado Sets Woodworking Tool Review

We cut a quarter mile of dadoes and grooves to find the best of the best of 15 sets.

With dado sets ranging from $30 to $300, how do you know which one is right for the work you do? To find out, we put a pile of carbide-toothed sets—both stacked and adjustable—to the test. We quickly learned that nearly all adjustable sets (sometimes called “wobble” blades) simply don’t make cuts clean enough for cabinet-grade woodworking. So, we eliminated those models, leaving us with the final 15 we rated for this tool review. Featured in the September 2003 issue.

This tool review includes the following products: Amana 658030-AK, Amana 658040, Avenger 10026, Avenger 10031, CMT 230.024.08, Delta 35-535, Forrest Dado King, Freud SD208 Freud SD508, Freud SD608, Jesada 108-240S, Lee Valley 15W01.04, Lee Valley 15W02.02, Systi-Matic 37155, Systi-Matic 37160
